How To Speed Up Your Computer -- Computer tips and tricks

Computer which is defined as an electronic machine that is capable of accepting data through the input unit, processing the data using stored procedures or programs and generating meaningful output or result called information through output unit is capable of performing some optimizations that will give a user wonderful experience on its own if put into proper usage.


Users can make a system perform faster than its normal speed if some tricks and actions are performed.  Some of the actions to be taken to increase the speed of your computer are explained below:

1) Perform disk clean-up: This method is very useful because it helps to remove every temporary files used by the system during installation. If disk clean-up is not performed the files will occupy space on your hard drive and compete with the useful files on your system for space. You can perform this task by using the features that came with your Operating System. Double click on Computer icon, right click on Local Disk (c) or (d) depending on the number of hard drive or partition you have on your system. Click on Properties from the pop-up menu and select General Tab in the dialog box that appears. Then select Disk Clean-up.

You can also use a freeware called Ccleaner which you can download from filehippo or cnet. Ccleaner will not only clean temporary files on your hard drive; it will also clean-up your browser cache, cookies, recycle bin files and any other option you select.

2) Deactivate some programs at start-up: This is another useful trick to speed up your system. There are some programs that start up with your computer that are not needed. Your system startup time can be enhanced by stopping these programs from starting up with your computer. You can do this by using the run command from the start menu. If you are using Windows 7, type run in the search box on the start menu. In the run textbox type MSConfig and hit the Enter key or Press Ok. This will show you a small window for configuring your start-up. Click on Startup tab and deactivate the programs you don't need at start up. After applying the changes, restart your computer. This will make your computer to boot faster.

3) Defragment your hard drive: Defragmentation is the process of bringing fragmented files on your hard drive together to enhance file indexing. If you leave the file scattered everywhere on the sectors of your hard drive, the speed at which your computer searches for and opens files will be very slow. You need to perform this task at least once in a month.

You can perform defragmentation using computer icon. Right click on Local Disk (c) and select properties. In the properties window, click on Tools Tab and select defragmentation. In the defragmentation Window, click on Analyze to check if defragmentation is necessary on the hard before you click on the Defrag button. This process can take up to 2 hrs or more to complete.

4) Perform thorough scanning for virus: Computer viruses can make a system to be very slow. If your system is infected with any virus, its operation will be very slow and frustrating. To ensure that your system is free from virus, always use the latest and updated version of any antivirus. Make sure that you have the latest virus definition database by updating your antivirus online and also ensure that you perform thorough scanning of your PC at least once in a month.
