How to Enable/Disable File Sharing Option in Windows 8?



Windows 8 OS is equipped with lots of advanced features. There's a buzz all around the world about the fascinating features of Windows 8. With the passage of time features many of the geeks has explaination about features like Hybrid boot, UEFI interface, Windows Live Essential tools etc. In this article I will let you know about one of the most important feature of Windows 8 which is still not able to grab the appropriate importance which it really deserves. The feature is "HomeGroup". HomeGroup is a method to form/design small Network of computer possessing the same operating system to facilitates sharing of docs, Pics, images, music files, applications among the members. Though this feature was introduced in Windows 7 and also applicable on Windows 8. Even you can share hardware like printer, scanner among the member of that HomeGroup. This feature also permits you to put restrictions on the data shared by you. You can make them private or make the data appeared as read only so that any unauthorized person could not can get access to the shared data. You can share all these stuffs from your computer in two ways:

By the Shared folder: In this method everyone who is part of HomeGroup can take share data from the common folders and is not allowed to invade in any of the personal folder. The data is shared in the Libraries, My documents, My pictures, My videos.
From any Folder: In this method a user grant permission to only few people to access all the data stored in common public folders as well as from the hard drive of computer. And other who are part of the Homegroup are authorized to fetch data from the common public folder.

Procedure for disabling\enabling file sharing option in Windows 8 are as follows:

On your windows 8 OS go to Start Screen and select "Search" option available in the Charms Bar.
Now a new Search window appears on your screen, type "Control Panel" in the text box and press Enter key from your keyboard.
Now a Control Panel window select "System and Security", then a new window will appear on your screen select and select "Network and Internet" option available on the right side of System and Security window.
In the Network and Internet window select "View Network Status and tasks" on the option available on the left pane of the screen.
Now click on the "Change Advanced Sharing Settings" on the left pane of the screen.
Then in "Advanced Sharing Settings" Window under "File and Printer Sharing" options are available whether you want to enable or disable sharing of files and Printer. Fill the checkbox according to your choice and enable\disable shared services.
Select "Save Changes" and then Restart your computer to make changes to take affect.
