Check the speakers:

Before you start assuming that something is severely wrong with your computer, you need to make sure that all your speakers are properly plugged in and completely functional. Sometimes the sound issue is just a step away to be resolved.

Check the placement of the sound card:

Firstly, take away all the rear cables from the system before you open the VAIO computer case and check the card. Then, you need to make sure that the placement of the card has been done perfectly in the slot. Little misplacement of the PCI sound card in the slot can cause a great impact on the sound of your system.

Check the drivers:

Click on the Start button. Then, go to the Control Panel. Go to the Systems and then, to the Device Manager. In case you don't find your sound card in the list of Sound Devices then, surely your sound card has been damaged. Go for Testing:

Now, after finishing the above steps you can test your drivers. Click the Start button and then go to Run and simply type "dxdiag" into the Run bar. After this, you will be asked for the permission to load the drivers to check the sound and the video of your system. Hit ‘yes'. If you have the drivers installed in your system, you will get the option of ‘Test' against the drivers. You will get the sound patterns after hitting Test. And if you don't hear any of them, then do as the troubleshooting instructions say.
