Restoring Dell computer to factory settings comes in to picture when it becomes necessary to remove virus from your computer, correct Dell PC configuration, undo hardware or software changes, or reformat hard drive etc. Since Dell computer restore is a bit sensitive procedure, you should do it carefully and step by step. The below mentioned guide will help you factory restore Dell computer and start afresh with it.




Step 1             

Since Dell PC restore will completely wipe out your entire computer data, you must create backups. Create a backup of your entire digital data including windows registry, documents, photos, videos, songs, games, emails, contacts, and programs etc. to online storage or an external hard drive. If yours is Windows 7 or Vista, click the Start button and point to Control Panel. In Control Panel, point to System and Maintenance and then Backup and Restore Center. Click the Backup files button under Back up files or your entire computer.

Step 2

If prompted, type your administrator password and click Continue. Follow rest of the on-screen prompts (self-explanatory) and back up your data to a hard disk, CD or DVD, it is advisable to back it up online, if you have online data backup solution to safeguard your data against loss. Depending on the amount of data your computer has, it may take from several minutes to hours to back up the data. Exit all the windows when it is done. If you are using Windows XP, click Start and point to Control Panel. In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance and then Back up your data. If you do not see Performance and Maintenance in Control Panel, you must be in the Classic View. Click Switch to Category View and then click both the options.

Step 3

When in the Backup or Restore Wizard window, click the Next button. Follow rest of the on-screen instructions (self-explanatory) and complete the backup. When you are done creating data backup, detach any peripheral like printer, router, or gaming console connected to your Dell computer. When done, restart your Dell computer. As soon as your Dell computer starts rebooting, start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue stroking the key until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu on your Dell computer screen.

Step 4

When in the Advanced Boot Options, click Repair Your Computer (use Up or Down arrow to make the selection) and hit the Enter key. If prompted, select your language (English) and click the Next button. When prompted, enter your admin username and password and click the OK button. Click the Dell Factory Image Restore option and then click Next or OK whichever option you see on the screen.

Step 5

Check the box beside Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition and then click the Next button. The process will begin now to restore your Dell computer to factory settings. It may take substantial deal of time resetting dell to factory settings depending on the data amount it has. So, be patient and do not shut down your Dell computer when it undergoing the restore process. Doing so can lead to system crash or other common Dell PC problems.
